Registry Fix

When you first open Registry Fix you see a very nice looking graphical user interface with a number of clearly labeled buttons. These include Preferences, Backup, Advanced Options and Live Update. You begin in the Scanning area of the program. You can choose to do a complete registry scan and let the program scan all areas of your registry automatically or the program offers you a number of other scan options that you can select using check boxes. These options include scanning your operating system’s Application Paths, Windows Fonts, Help Files and Startup Programs.

Once you choose which type of scan, you simply click the big orange “Scan Now” button and Registry Fix will proceed with scanning the contents of your registry seeking out potential problems. Scan times with Registry Fix are quick and as the scan progresses your are shown a running tally of problems found in each of the different registry areas. Once the scan is complete you can choose to simply remove all the problem files found or you can manually review each of the registry entries and decide if you want them to stay or go.

Other options in Registry Fix include the backup area. Here you can backup your registry files in case you accidentally delete an important registry file. If this does happen, you simply restore your registry to where it was before the deletion.

Advanced options in Registry Fix include the Browser Helper Object Manager. BHO’s come in the form of unwanted tool bars or other Internet Explorer add-ons that get installed without your permission or knowledge. These toolbars are a favorite hiding place for spyware. Using the Registry Fix Browser Helper Object Manager you can deactivate or remove these objects.

Another advanced option is the Startup Program Manager. Using this feature you can take control of all your startup programs. These programs take up valuable resources on your computer and most of the time aren’t needed at startup so they can be removed or deleted altogether which in turn will improve your system’s performance.

In the Preferences tab you can choose to have Registry Fix startup automatically, create an ignore list of files not to scan and have the program make a log file each time it performs a scan.

You can also get the latest program updates simply by clicking the Live Update button in the program.
